How to Cultivate Teenage Drive. How to develop teenage drive is the $64,000 question and I do believe that the secret to motivating a teenager is the relationship while I am not a parenting expert. A shared experience could be a powerful representative of connection, and it is that connection enabling an adult to motivate an adolescent.

  1. Gathering Dance. Developmental psychologist Gordon Neufeld explains the ‘collecting ritual’ in their guide hang on To Your children. The dance that is collecting similar to building a infant smile before picking it up. Similar holds true for the teenager: you need to get the eye and establish a connection in order to become a supply of motivation.
  2. Enthusiasm. Most teens are far more interested in their friends than inside their parents and the SATs. In reality, the more into the friends shmoop best custom writing they are, the harder it will likely be to obtain their attention. a teenager that is peer-oriented need more enthusiasm and initiative from the parent to become motivated than one that is oriented toward adults. Provided Ethan’s level of peer orientation at the time, we had a need to deploy enthusiasm that is radical.
  3. Parental Involvement. Remain involved and interested, even if your teenager is resistant. I saw with my eyes that are own adolescents fare better academically when parents are involved beyond monitoring homework, and i really believe Neufeld’s use adolescents confirms my experience.
  4. Invite the Connection. The many potent source of motivation for an adolescent is attention and fascination with whatever they are doing. a provided project claims that the child issues and is special. The relationship that results from this suffered proximity allows for the parent to do something as a compass in the child’s life and to activate motivation.

7-Steps to a 350 Point SAT Score Increase

I received this text message in one of my students:

Maybe You Have Reached Your Score Goal?

This student was extremely methodical and motivated. We spent about 1 1.5 hours per week together, going over her tests. She did a lot of the heavy lifting on her own.

7-Steps to a 350 Point SAT Score Increase:

1 Establish a Starting Point: She started the procedure with large amount of test anxiety, which makes her score gain all the more remarkable. She not only had the standard challenges everyone else has, but she also had to handle the anxiety issue. Anxiety is terrible for a score that is sat.

The goal for the SAT was to survive december!

2 learn Aids: She took a brief hiatus after the December SAT, then began the Critical Reading Intensive by late December.

  • The New Math SAT Strategy by Philip Keller

In January, she studied math, utilizing The New Math SAT idea, and took a sections that are few associated with College Board’s Blue Book.

3 Practice SATs: By early February, she ended up being prepared to start taking full, timed training SATs. We made a routine — one full SAT every weekend.

4 Test Analysis: she didn’t know, including those from the reading passages after she took each practice test, she’d spend 1 day looking up every single vocabulary word. She studied those terms every until test day day.

5 Charting Errors: After looking up the vocab, she would chart all of her errors, giving careful consideration to why she made the error, and picking out brand new techniques for the next practice test. During the between practice tests, she’d spend about one hour per day, studying her errors week. For example, she would spend an hour studying all idiomatic expressions if she made an ‘idiomatic expression’ error on the writing section.

6 methods that are different every week, she tried out different ‘methods’ of responding to questions on her training SATs. As an example, seven days she tried the passage based reading concerns without reading the passage first (it didn’t work), another week she tried not guessing/leaving the question blank if she was not certain of the clear answer (it worked), and another week she tried not leaving any questions blank.

Various methods work with different people. One student scored an 800 on the reading section by perhaps not reading the passages before responding to the questions. That did not work with this student. Some students are good guessers and some are not.

Area of the test prep process is to rapidly find out which strategy works best for which student.

7 Practice Scores vs. Real Scores: Her practice scores fluctuated by about 50 points per section, from week to week. In the end, her May SAT mathematics and reading scores were in the reduced end of her range, and her writing score came in right in the centre.
